About Dr. Engasser

Dr. Mark Engasser is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon with over 46 years of surgical and medical experience treating athletic injuries and orthopedic conditions. He has dedicated his career to helping athletes of all ages stay active and recover from injury.

As an avid pickleball player himself, Dr. Engasser understands the unique demands the sport places on the body — particularly for the mature athlete. This firsthand experience drives his passion for providing practical, evidence-based advice to the pickleball community.

Dr. Engasser's approach is grounded in common sense: most overuse injuries can be managed conservatively, and surgery should only be considered when truly necessary. He believes in empowering patients with the information they need to make informed decisions about their care.

Dr. Engasser's Philosophy

"I want your OMG moment to mean 'One More Game' versus a surprise 'Oh My Gosh!' response to an unexpected physical problem that might have been minimized or prevented."

Dr. Engasser believes that most orthopedic problems can be addressed with conservative treatment — rest, ice, anti-inflammatories, and gentle range of motion. Surgery is a last resort, not a first response.

He also believes strongly that MRIs are overused in treating orthopedic problems. A thorough history and physical exam, combined with an x-ray when needed, will most often lead to an accurate diagnosis and effective treatment plan.
